Toen hij in 2003 veroordeeld werd tot een gevangenisstraf van vijf jaar, besloot Fred Klee er het beste van te maken. De gevangenisdirectie wist zijn creatieve talent en vlotte pen te waarderen. Al snel werd hij ingezet als onderhoudsman, media-man, hulp-voor-alles en kreeg hij vrijheden die een ander niet had. Het bracht hem op plekken die niet iedereen zomaar te zien krijgt.

Nieuwe gedetineerden, exit gedetineerden, stakingen, gevangenisopstanden, de intriges in het dagelijkste bestuur van de gevangenis, vieringen, tragiek, blijdschap, dood, maar vooral treurnis, slechtheid en droefheid, alles zag hij voorbijkomen.

Hij was in de Antwerpse Begijnenstraat de bezieler van het interne radiokanaal Radio Cachot en richtte er de muziekband The Freedom Jail Band op.

About the author
Fred Klee werd in 2003 veroordeeld voor fiscale fraude en verbleef van 2003 tot 2007 in de gevangenis in de Begijnenstraat in Antwerpen. Sindsdien toert hij met de theaterproductie Radio Cachot en baat een live music club uit.
