Op zaterdag 4 mei 2019 fietste Julie Van Espen (23) van haar woonplaats Schilde naar Antwerpen, op weg naar een gezellige avond met haar vriendinnen. Ze kwam nooit aan op haar bestemming, omdat een ontspoord individu haar pad kruiste. Na haar verdwijning zochten haar ouders, familie en vrienden wanhopig maar in grote verbondenheid de wijde omgeving af. Twee dagen later, op maandag 6 mei, moesten ze het noodlot onder ogen zien. Julies levenloze lichaam werd aangetroffen in het Albertkanaal.In samenwerking met Julies moeder Kaat schreef Diane Broeckhoven het levensverhaal van de jonge studente neer, aangevuld met getuigenissen van familieleden en vrienden. Iedereen die Julie ontmoette of haar kende, werd meegesleept door haar levenslust en haar positieve uitstraling. Hoe jong ze ook was toen ze stierf, ze heeft het leven voluit geleefd en beleefd.‘Julie wilde van de wereld een betere plek maken,’ zeggen haar ouders. ‘In haar naam blijven wij dat ook hoopvol proberen.’De opbrengst van dit boek gaat naar PUNT.vzw, een advies- en informatiecentrum voor seksueel grensoverschrijdend gedrag.
