Reproductive medicine

Within the specialties Obstetrics & Gynaecology, reproductive medicine is a rapidly growing (sub)specialty. As a result of social trends and the expansion of treatment possibilities, the demand for health care within reproductive medicine is not just changing in a quantitative, but in a qualitative sense as well. In addition, tasks are increasingly being shared between physicians, nurses and laboratory technicians. This requires specific knowledge and competences. Reproductive Medicine provides this knowledge in the context of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Neonatology and Reproductive medicine. The different subjects in this textbook are covered in an integrated fashion, wherever possible. The (patho-)physiology, necessary medical background and specific nursing and laboratory aspects are therefore discussed interconnectedly. In every chapter the authors have - wherever possible - drawn upon the disturbance of specific vital functions in relation to health problems. The information provided in this textbook helps O&G nurses and laboratory technicians to analyse health problems correctly. The relation between observation and (pre)diagnosis is explained; making it possible for appropriate decisions to be made on the basis of specific nursing and laboratory diagnoses, interventions and evaluations.
