Psychodiagnostiek neemt in het takenpakket van heel wat psychologen een belangrijke plaats in. Meer nog dan de psychotherapie, die ook door andere beroepsgroepen wordt beoefend, bepaalt de diagnostiek de eigenheid van de psycholoog in de hulpverlening. In 2003 publiceerden De Bruyn, Ruijssenaars, Pameijer en Van Aarle De diagnostische cyclus: Een praktijkleer, een uitgebreide handleiding bij de concrete uitwerking van het diagnostische proces in de vorm van de diagnostische cyclus.Tot de puzzel past laat de lezer in korte, praktijkgerichte bijdragen kennismaken met vier basisvragen van de diagnostische cyclus: onderkenning (wat zijn de problemen?, wat lukt nog en wat gaat mis?); verklaring (waarom zijn de problemen er en waarom blijven ze bestaan?); indicatiestelling (hoe kunnen de problemen verholpen worden?) en evaluatie (zijn de problemen door de interventie afdoende verholpen?). Verder komen actuele onderwerpen en nieuwe ontwikkelingen in de klinische psychodiagnostiek aan bod. Het boek richt zich zowel tot psychodiagnostici in opleiding als hulpverleners in de klinische praktijk.
