De kinderen van de nacht is het verslag van een zoektocht naar de wilde wolf én naar de wolf in de mens - met onverwacht resultaat. Behalve een zinnebeeld van wreedheid en vraatzucht blijkt de wolf het symbool van mystieke krachten en seksuele oerdriften; een dier dat naast angst ook bewondering en genegenheid oproept.
