How should surgeons deal with cancer patients? The cornerstone of effective treatment is a multidisciplinary collaboration between many specialties in which surgeons are not only concerned about operative accessibility and technique but rather have a deep understanding of the fundamental biology of the malignancy they are dealing with and appreciate the reach of multi-modal treatment. This handbook is a practical reference for today's surgeons who actively manage cancer patients in both the acute and out-patient setting. It covers all the key areas, from initial presentation and diagnosis, investigation and staging, to active discussion in collaborative multidisciplinary cancer network meetings, operative management, post-operative care, and long term surveillance and palliation. Drawing together all the varied guidelines and source materials that form the basis of this complex subject, it is the first surgical oncology text that provides instant access to detailed clinical algorithms and operative techniques covering the wide range of cancers that general surgeons encounter, from GI tract to breast and endocrine cancers. Consistently sourced from current evidence based guidelines with a concise summary of underlying pathology and molecular biology, Surgical Oncology will enable the reader to knowledgably manage cancer patients from initial assessment to long term surveillance. It is an essential accompaniment for all higher surgical trainees from MRCS to the exit FRCS and EBSQ exams, and will be particularly useful for trainees rotating between surgical subspecialties, as well as having wide appeal to other members of the multidisciplinary team. Covers all the major cancer regions encountered by general surgeons from GI tract to breast and endocrine cancers, to soft tissue sarcomas Provides instant access to detailed clinical algorithms, recognised guidelines and source materials that guide current evidential practice Includes detailed stepwise operative management from initial presentation and diagnosis, as well as neoadjuvant and adjuvant strategies and long-term surveillance or palliation surveillance Acts as a highly useful guide for those sitting exit exams at the end of higher surgical training, FRCS, EBSQ, as well as American board candidates and other members of the multidisciplinary team Covers the key areas in this complex discipline, from diagnosis, pathology and molecular biology, and appropriate staging and radiology, to evaluating the reach of multi-modal treatment Edited by M Asif Chaudry , Specialist Registrar in Surgery, London and Surgical Research Fellow, Division of Surgery and Interventional Science, University College London, UK, and Marc Christopher Winslet , Professor of Surgery, Head of Department and Chairman of Division of Surgery and Interventional Science, University College London, UK CONTENTS 1: Cancer radiology 2: Breast cancer 3: Thyroid and parathyroid tumours 4: Oesophageal cancer 5: Gastric cancer 6: Liver and biliary cancers 7: Cancer of the pancreas 8: Small bowel and rare GI cancers 9: Colorectal cancer 10: Anal cancer 11: Renal cancer 12: Bladder cancer 13: Prostate carcinoma 14: Testicular cancer 15: Soft tissue sarcoma   Mohammed Asif Chaudry is a specialist registrar in surgery in London and surgical oncologist in training with an interest in gastrointestinal cancer. Book condition
An important factor of a second-hand book is the condition of the book. The buyer may not be surprised. Always mention damages or defects. We use a system with 3 stars:
The book is acceptable: you have used it to study and made notes and markings – but everything is still readable. The cover and pages are in good condition.
The book still looks good: there are a few notes in it and you marked it. There are hardly any signs of use on the cover and pages.
The book is (almost) new: you have not written or marked in it. There are no signs of use on the cover and pages.
