Geoffrey Quail studied dental science at universities in Melbourne, Australia and Toronto, Canada and practised as an orthodontist before qualifying in medicine at Melbourne University. He completed postgraduate studies in tropical medicine at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Professor Quail was first appointed a lecturer in the Department of Oral Medicine at the University of Melbourne in 1961 and has held academic appointments at Melbourne and Monash universities ever since. He is Head of the Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit at Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne (formerly the Queen Victoria Hospital), a position he has held since 1965. In 1986'87 he was also Acting Director of the Emergency Department at Repatriation Hospital, Heidelberg. Professor Quail's interest in medical education and tropical medicine led him to serve as a consultant in medical education at 6 RAAF hospital, Laverton, with the rank of Wing Commander for many years. He has also been Chairman of the Medical Education Committee of the RACGP (Victoria) and is currently a member of the council of the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine. Table of contents 1.
