Een paar jaar geleden ontving Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie een brief van een goede vriendin waarin deze haar vroeg hoe ze haar dochtertje tot feministe kon opvoeden. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Nigeria, 1977) is de auteur van drie romans: Een halve gele zon, die de Orange Prize won en genomineerd was voor de National Book Critics Circle Award (een nieuwe editie van de Nederlandse vertaling verschijnt op 16 februari bij Uitgeverij De Bezige Bij), Paarse hibiscus, waarvoor zij de Commonwealth Writers’ Prize en de Hurston/Wright Legacy Award ontving, en Amerikanah, dat werd bekroond met de Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize for Fiction 2013. Het ding om je hals, een verhalenbundel, stond op de shortlist voor de Commenwealth Writer's Prize for Best Book in Africa. In oktober 2016 verscheen het pamflet We moeten allemaal feminist zijn. Adichie woont zowel in Nigeria als in de Verenigde Staten.
